What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is 221B Tactical. Our customers are police officers, first responders, military personnel, and tactical-minded civilians.

Tell us about yourself

My career began in the 1980s in the fashion-textile industry. In 2014 I felt I needed a change, and I used my skills to form a partnership with a 13-year police officer (retired) to produce tactical apparel and safety-related gear used within that marketplace. I love taking care of people who take care of us. We've since evolved whereby we've increased our focus to also take care of civilians interested in tactical products. We are continually focused on our brand's awareness which is very challenging yet very rewarding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a totally unknown company in 2014 and having it now utilized by tens of thousands of people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being able to adapt and act within the fastest-changing marketplace in modern history.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a solid, strategic plan once you've identified a viable marketplace.
  2. Don't give up when you get discouraged.
  3. Align yourself with effective sources to accumulate superior knowledge in the domain of professional sales.
