Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Mallory Blair, Co-Founder of 2x4 Health LLC, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

2x4 Nutrition is a revolutionary liposomal supplement & vitamin company that I founded, which uses a groundbreaking technology we call Nutristack to increase absorption by 15x in comparison to traditional gummies or pills. It's actually quite groundbreaking, as we are currently one of the most absorbable supplement brands out there, and it's all thanks to our technology. It works so well because we discovered a way (inspired by breast milk) to encapsulate nutrients found in supplements into tiny microscopic bubbles called liposomes. These are lipid, fat-like structures, similar to the lipids found in breast milk, that protect the nutrient and stop it from breaking down in the body. This is why babies get sufficient nutrients from breast milk because it's more absorbable than anything else due to these lipids. So we used these structures in our technology, and the Nutristack in the technology actually sends signals to tell these nutrients where to go in the body. So they don't go to the stomach. They go directly into your blood and immediately into the cells that need those nutrients. It's quite extraordinary, but with this, your body can absorb up to 95% of the nutrients in our supplements; with traditional supplements, your body can absorb up to 5%. All that means is we deliver supplements that actually work. They absorb better, work better, and work faster, and you won't have to wait months to see or feel a result. They're also entirely formulated by doctors and scientists, clinically studied and proven to work better than traditional supplements, and are all-natural.

Tell us about yourself

I am a scientist, Ph.D., and a mother of 2 kids! My children and family inspired me to start my company because I initially just wanted supplements I could confidently give my family, knowing they're actually making a difference. But unfortunately, because of my background, I knew that nothing was out there that truly worked. And then, one day, I visited my doctor, who told me that my iron levels were very low and advised me to start taking iron supplements. He then said I would see a difference in 6-months, and it would take a year for my levels to go back to normal. I found that to be absurd. I know that there was a way to create supplements that could work faster than that I could take and get my iron levels back up within a few days and that I could give my kids knowing they're actually benefiting and not just eating candy and sugar-filled "gummy" vitamins. So I took matters into my own hands, invented Nutristack Liposomes alongside my incredible team of scientists and doctors, and then started 2x4.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Knowing that I'm actually making a difference. I can create something so revolutionary and share it with the world, knowing it can make such a huge impact on their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things for me personally was running a business, teaching on the side, and raising two kids. It's not easy, and it can be quite exhausting, actually. But luckily, I do have my partner, who has been incredibly supportive and gives me that push when I feel things are getting a little too much.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Never give up. I know it's cliche, but there will be moments where you stop and think, what's the point, and am I crazy for doing this? It's ok to think that way, but remember, every great leader has had the same thoughts. The trick is to try and remind yourself why you started this journey in the first place.
  2. Be passionate. Starting a business is not easy. It's a lot of long nights, setbacks, and disappointments. So you have to be truly passionate and truly believe in what you're doing for you to push through that.
  3. Find a support system. You don't have to be in this alone. For me, it was my brilliant husband. For you, it could be a mentor, a family member, or a business partner.
