What's your business, and who are your customers?
37 North Expeditions is a full-service guiding company that curates exceptional quality outdoor experiences. We aim to make the outdoors accessible to all and to use the outdoors as a societal benefit to overall mental/physical health.
Tell us about yourself
Before moving back home to the Ozarks, I was working as the Expedition Manager at a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World in South America. We moved back as my father was diagnosed with a terminal disease, and we quickly took to the outdoors for a release from that situation. 37 North Expeditions was founded from the realization of how many others overlook how amazing the Ozarks backyard really is and the desire to help more people realize the power of outdoor experiences.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We are the tip of the spear for our industry in our region. We have powered through many hurdles helping our region understand what it is that we really do. We are not a guiding service. We curate exceptional experiences that bring you closer to the outdoors. We have taken over 5000 people outside on adventures with us since our beginning and educated over 700 hopeful future advocates in our youth programming, but maybe even more impactful.
We have helped so many community members become a guide, whether it be for a fun weekend gig or a transition of careers, we find it incredibly special to be an avenue for others to share their passion for the great outdoors.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balance - a balance between personal life and business life while also simply negotiating priorities when time is always the biggest enemy.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- An answer of no is simply a question asked wrong.
- Stay persistent and determined.
- When in doubt, narrow focus.
