Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jenn Lamb, Owner of A Dash of Macros, located in Annapolis, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a Nutrition and Fitness Coach but also a Graphic Designer for other Nutrition and Fitness Coaches. I have two types of clients:

  • Women who want to ditch fad diets and finally learn how to properly fuel their bodies so that they can not only reach but maintain their goals. I help women repair their metabolism and get it working as effectively as possible. I remove restrictions teaching ladies how to enjoy the food they love in moderation while doing the most effective and efficient workouts. Gone are the days of endless cardio... that's not the answer to getting the physique we want!
  • My other clients are other fitness and nutrition coaches. Helping them with their marketing and branding material! I provide Done-For-You visual marketing products such as branding styling guides, templates of social media posts, and business card design, and I can turn boring PDFs into visual masterpieces, sale page design, essentially anything to do with marketing and branding their products to their ideal client.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a Macro Friendly recipe creator back in 2015. I was personally tracking macros and found that to hit my goal, I was eating the same thing almost every single day. I wanted to change that and help other women enjoy food while hitting their goals!

I love to cook, and I consider my plate my canvas and food my paints! I was able to use my art and design background to create delicious healthy recipes and photograph them to share on my website and social media. In 2019 I started taking on Nutrition and Fitness clients after getting my certifications and having ladies who were eating my recipes ask if I coached! So that's what I did! Since then, I have helped over 100 women lose weight, build lean muscle and understand how to maintain those results! It's been incredible.

While working on my own business, I continued to get complaints from other coaches about my marketing material and them asking for help with theirs. I love creating beautiful things! I went to Art school for design, so while helping other coaches, I found my passion again for creating. When I am not working with one of my own nutrition or fitness clients, I'm helping other coaches with the branding so they can grow their businesses and attract their ideal clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Truly being able to help and teach other women! Whether that be my nutrition/fitness clients reaching their goals. Being along for that ride is so rewarding and impactful! But also in helping other coaches grow their business and sharing beautiful content with the world to attract their ideal clients!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Knowing when to turn it off, shut the computer, and take a break! I love what I do, and I can work 24/7! There is always something that I can be working on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started!
  2. Messy action is better than no action!
  3. You do not have to have everything in place to get started. Start with what you've got and grow from there!
