Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ricci-Lee Hotz, Founder of A Taste of Health, LLC, located in Lakewood, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a private practice registered dietitian who works with clients of all ages and backgrounds to help them achieve their nutrition goals. Whether for weight management, eating disorders, sports/dancer performance, and GI conditions. I practice an evidence-based, all foods fit philosophy, helping my clients learn to create a healthy lifestyle while developing a healthy relationship with food and their body. I work to help my clients reach their goals and maintain a lifelong healthy lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I always wanted to start my private practice to be able to help my clients more comprehensively and with a full-person approach. Working restricted my ability to spend sufficient time with my clients to help them create the behavior and mindset changes necessary to achieve their nutrition goals. In addition, I am also a professional competitive ballroom dancer, so running my practice allows me to create flexibility and balance to pursue my multiple passions. Knowing that I have the opportunity to connect with and help solve and work through my client's challenges. Helping make a positive difference in their lives is my biggest day-to-day motivator.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner and growing my private practice independently. I moved to Colorado while creating consistent and organic growth in clientele that has exponentially increased over the past five years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is there is always something that could be done or worked on. Making the decisions to create adequate work-life balance while also learning and completing behind-the-scenes work that is not the focus of your education in school are the most challenging aspects.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research! Speak with other business owners and access resources for business owners in your field so you can learn from their mistakes and successes rather than starting from scratch.
  2. Be patient and persistent. Building a sustainable business can take time and go through peaks and valleys. Be willing to ride the waves while also having solutions to help decrease time spent in "the valleys."
  3. Stay open and willing to learn and make adjustments in your business. Just as the world is always changing, so is business.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Running a private practice and seeing growth and success for my clientele and my business has been incredible and inspiring. Remain inspired by and connected with your business clientele. It will help you continue to feel motivated to provide your best product or service.
