Leaders Impact Everything - Adam Tarnow

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Tarnow, Founder of Adam Tarnow & Company, LLC., located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a consulting firm that specializes in leadership development. My customers are typically business owners or HR leaders looking for help to develop their people managers and emerging leaders.

Tell us about yourself

I understood the power of leadership shortly after graduating college and started my first job as an accountant. I noticed that my life was different when I was working for a good leader (versus working for a sub-par leader). I began voraciously reading as much as possible on the subject because I wanted to be a good leader when my time to lead came. Along the way, I developed an outlook and framework for leading that helped me be the type of leader I wanted to be and appeared to make me a leader worth following.

Now, it's my joy to teach, train, and develop leaders from all walks of life! Leading others is undoubtedly one of the most challenging things I've ever done, but it's also one of the most rewarding. I love helping other leaders improve their skills and grow in their confidence.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Publishing my first book (with my friend David Morrison) in September 2022. The book is called "The Edge: How to Stand Out by Showing You're All In."

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, it's business development. I am lucky to have a strong client list, but I know at any moment, one of those clients can go away, and my monthly cash flow will be negatively impacted. I find it a challenge to keep one eye on today (serving my clients) and one eye on the future (looking for new clients).

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. As soon as you have courage, leap.
  2. Make as many friends as possible (people like doing business with friends).
  3. You probably won't be able to articulate your value proposition until you've worked with a few clients.
