Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sean Nichols, Founder of Add Health, located in Campbell, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our main service is leading short team stretch breaks for employees. These breaks are:

  • 10 min long
  • virtually coached
  • done standing at a desk (home or office)
  • easy-to-do / everyone can participate
  • people stand up, breathe, move and stretch
  • people immediately feel better

This is a B2B service, and our customers are likely to be medium-sized companies (50+ people) or larger. The employees of our customers likely sit often during their work days.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I'm Sean Nichols, a long-time personal trainer and corporate health and wellness consultant. In my work over the last 12 years, it became apparent that our lack of activity is significantly affecting our own vitality, happiness, and health. We all know we should take health breaks, but we often get wrapped up in each busy day's events and forget to add the valuable movement we need. I decided to start offering short Stretch Breaks that can be done by just standing at your desk space and following along.

The stretch breaks focus on breathing, with easy-to-do movements that help open our tight bodies and help us to feel better immediately. What motivates me?, Easy... providing a time-efficient + effective solution that everyone can participate in. Stretching, moving, and breathing help people:

  • manage mental stress
  • improve physical pain
  • increase mobility and flexibility
  • boost mood
  • and restore focus

To name just a few powerful benefits. And energy is contagious. When you feel good, it's that much easier for those around you to feel good too! I'm motivated to improve an individual's quality of life and the company's work culture + ROI altogether.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The learning process. It's never-ending, but every day, whether I want to or not, I get to learn and accomplish the hundreds of various tasks that need my attention. Each task I accomplish builds my own capabilities and understanding, brick by brick.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Consistency of day in and day out thinking about, planning, and being actionable on every single thing I can towards making my company successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know exactly who your potential customers are (how accessible are they? how long is a sales cycle? what are their needs, and how can you be an answer for them?)
  2. Try to think of everything you're going to need to pay for. Take your time and think about all of them over the course of at least a few days. Know this intimately before becoming actionable on buying anything.
  3. Make sure you have strong experience or knowledge in whatever service or product you intend to.
