Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in copywriting but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Allie Linn, founder of Allie Linn Writes, located in New York City, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a freelance copywriter, and my clients are therapists, psychiatrists, and mental health organizations.

Tell us about yourself

I first started my business when one of my best friends passed away unexpectedly. He always took every opportunity life had to offer, and at the time, I wasn't working because I had just left the field of being a therapist myself and experienced major burnout. My main motivations are to have location independence since my husband travels a lot, a flexible schedule, and the ability to remain connected to the field of therapy. My real "why" is my friend Neil who died. I made something happen because that's what he would have done, and every day that I lose sight of why I do this, I remember Neil.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Getting consistent inbound leads from my website. I haven't done client outreach in over a year because my SEO is so good that people are finding me.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Making decisions - who to hire, what and how many clients to take on, and what my schedule is going to be.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ask for help (coaches, friends, course creators, someone).
  2. Network.
  3. Have an organized system in place for everything.
