What's your business, and who are your customers?

I hand make candles, home and body perfume, and organic soaps. My customers are eco-conscious consumers, vegans, and folks with a spiritual or pagan leaning.

Tell us about yourself

I was a teacher and loved my career. I wasn't able to advance the way I wanted, so I started a side hustle and slash backup plan for my next chapter. During the lockdown, I taught my last semester in Spring 2020 and transitioned to just pushing my business forward. I love waking up and working for myself every day, when I want, and doing what I want.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving a global pandemic while staying balanced enough to adapt. I was primarily selling in person and quickly had to shift to online-only sales. Those scales have moved a few more times up and down this last year, so staying flexible has been key.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being "on" 24/7, feeling like the emails and work never stop. Putting up boundaries with the work is tough but vital.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Stay true to what you love, not what sells. If you're just in it for the money, your brand won't be authentic.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My brand is deeply tied to my passions: sustainability and safety, human rights and charitable giving, and making one's life and surroundings easier and more enjoyable.
