Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey by launching a health & wellness business but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bryce Wylde, CEO of Wylde On Health, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I blend the latest in human biological, genomic screening, science, and technology. Using new, traditional, and ancient remedies to help my patients get back to and maintain optimal health.

Tell us about yourself

Early in my professional career, I began using the media to help build my clinical practice and realized how much people desired to learn about natural medicine. Since 2001, I have been featured in many thousands of hours of network television and countless speaking engagements. That ranges from community fundraisers and charity events to workshops for Fortune 500 companies. I began an official on-air television career in early 2008 with CTV hosting my own hour-long, highly rated weekly television show, "Wylde On Health." As an hour-long live talk show format, the broadcast featured interviews with international experts, including Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr. Andrew Weil, CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. David Suzuki, and Dr. Deepak Chopra, to name a few.

I then got a writers bug and authored four books: The Antioxidant Prescription: How to Use the Power of Antioxidants to Prevent Disease and Stay Healthy for Life, Wylde On Health: Your Best Choices in the World of Natural Health, Power Plants: Simple Home Remedies You Can Grow, and most recently Brainspanners: What Have You Done For Your Brain Today? Besides my passion for clinical, media, and writing, I am also a proud serial entrepreneur. Those are the things that truly inspire me. I own a production company that has produced dozens of micro-documentaries that feature businesses from all over the globe that manufacture the raw materials that supply consumer-facing natural health products. I co-founded Youtrients Inc – a company dedicated to custom nutrient formulas informed by personalized genomics, and more recently Mymmunity - a startup dedicated to optimizing immune health through personalized nutrition.

Lastly, I wouldn't feel complete without efforts toward philanthropy. I have worked closely with various community outreach programs, fundraisers, and other charitable campaigns to raise awareness of worthy causes. I've helped raise over 1.5M dollars for various causes at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital, Markham Stouffville Hospital, North York General Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, and York Central Hospital. Whether it is a 5, 10, or even a 256km run, walk, a bike ride across a small country, or summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro, I am always up to the task of raising money for great causes.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping thousands of patients successfully. Achieve their personal health goals and likely helped create many thousands of extra years of life on to their lives.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The delicate balance of work-life and the inherent guilt that you haven't done enough in any given day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Learn how to develop a complete business plan, including comprehensive operational, financial, and marketing elements.
  2. Failing to plan is planning to fail.
  3. Never, ever give up.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Business success, like life, is more about the journey and much less about the destination. Be sure that your vision (the why) and mission (how you plan to get there) are crystal clear while at the same time never losing sight of the long-term commitment. Oh... and don't take anything personally along the way. Eat healthy food, exercise daily, supplement your diet, meditate, cultivate healthy relationships, and get deep-restful sleep.
