People, passions & happy places - Amy Bucher Photographic Artist

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Bucher, owner and founder of Amy Bucher Photographic Artist, located in Marblehead, MA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Using a camera, I share stories about people, their passions, and their "happy places". I specialize in headshot/branding, family, and vacation rental photography.

Tell us about yourself

I decided I was going to be a professional photographer when I was in the 8th grade. I am a creator and people person who is always trying to learn and make connections.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've been a full time professional photographer for over 20 years and have continued to pivot and keep up with changes in technology (from film to DSLR) and the ups and downs of the economy.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Bookkeeping is hard for a solo business owner. I do it...but it is painful. Luckily I have a great accountant to keep me organized. I also work very hard and have seasonal deadlines that keep from fully enjoying time off.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Work and save a nest egg before you begin.

Surround yourself with a mastermind group of likeminded business people in other industries.

Market, network and collaborate all the time.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I love what I do and aim to make the process of getting photographed easy and fun.
