Aha Career Coaching & Recruiting - Amy Hitchner-Allison

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Hitchner-Allison, Owner of AHA Career Coaching & Recruiting, located in Foley, AL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is career coaching mid-level career-minded professionals and executive recruiting for high-end hospitality venues.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a wife and mother to one rambunctious young man, and I run my own coaching and recruiting business. For years after being an active-duty soldier, I dreamed about running my own company. I just never knew what it should be. Then, after years of working in recruiting and coaching many candidates through the process, whether as an in-house recruiter or staffing agency member, I realized I had more of a passion for helping others land their favorite job and further their careers. Helping people realize that they can enjoy the process of moving their career forward and understand just how much control they can have over the process is super rewarding!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

To date, I will say just starting-finally! I've second-guessed myself for years, and now I'm all in on this wild journey.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Make sure you focus most of your time on actions that are going to generate revenue for your company. As the owner, you must complete them, but they cannot consume all of your time and attention.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. First, if you can, save money and don't take out a loan. And when you start making money, put a portion of it back into your business.
  2. Second, you don't need the most expensive tools on the market to be successful. A lot of tools can be free or cheap to get you up and to run.
  3. My last tip is to START! Stop waiting for the right time or the right message or the right whatever it may be. Start. It's easier to change direction and correct when you are moving than it is when you are still at the beginning, standing still. It's scary. You may embarrass yourself. You may fail. Do it anyway.
