What's your business, and who are your customers?

Andrew Exler Consulting provides expertise in social media and marketing to nonprofits, start-ups, and small businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA; I have built my life and career around working with and improving the lives of others. I am the Founder & Chief Strategist of Andrew Exler Consulting, providing expertise in social media marketing & professional development to nonprofits, start-ups, and small businesses. Also, I am the Director of Digital Marketing & Partnerships at Israel21c.

I graduated from the Ohio University College of Business in 2013, where I became a Brother of Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity and was on the Men's Club Lacrosse team. I earned a Certificate in Accounting from the University of Pittsburgh in 2018.

In my free time, I volunteer in leadership roles with various nonprofit organizations and coach lacrosse. I currently reside in Pittsburgh with my wife and their two dogs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is unique as I celebrate all of my clients when they succeed. There is nothing to be more proud of than when I hear from a client about how impactful my work was for them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

When it comes to being a business owner, it is very easy to overwork yourself. Time management is a key component of running your own business to ensure you are successful but still taking care of your own physical and mental health.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make a plan. It's great to "go" and start their business, but having a plan in place to ensure you can be efficient and live a comfortable lifestyle is essential.
  2. Utilize your network. There is no better place to start promoting your own business than with those who love you and support you the most. Your personal network may just be your most powerful tool.
  3. Accept failure, and learn from it! Sounds weird, right? Who would "accept failure"? I am not saying that you should be ok with failure, BUT you need to accept that failure could happen, and the most important thing you can do is take that failure, learn from it, and try again.
