Speak Up For Blue Media and Communications - Andrew Lewin

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Andrew Lewin, CEO of Speak Up For Blue Media and Communications Inc., located in Burlington, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is podcast management which helps business owners build an audience and loyalty through their messaging.

Tell us about yourself

I started podcasting in 2015 when I launched the Speak Up For The Ocean Blue podcast to provide a platform to link marine scientists and conservationists with an audience that wanted to learn more about the ocean and how they can protect it. I soon fell in love with podcasting, so I started to record more episodes and invest more time in my new hobby. My hobby soon turned into a business. People started to reach out to me to help them with their podcasts as they realized I was building my own audience with my podcast. I found out that I loved coaching people on podcasting based on my research and my experiences.

My motivation continues to be helping people get past the fears of technology and fears of being heard to get their message out via podcasts consistently.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was building up a diverse list of clients who wanted me to manage their podcasts monthly.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that I had to learn as a business owner is knowing when to let go. I needed to let go of tasks that took up too much time for me to complete and stood in the way of spending time on other important aspects of the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your motivation - There will be some tough times throughout your business journey that will require you to go back and remind yourself why you started your business in the first place. Knowing your motivation will get you through the tough times and allow you to double down on the good times.
  2. Build an audience - You will need to have customers to sell your product or service. Build an audience in the niche in which you want your business to serve.
  3. Ask your audience how you can help them - Ask your audience what problem they need solved and create a service/product based on solving that problem. You can even ask them to pay for it before the product/service is available.
