What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a trauma-informed yoga therapist that specializes in working with children and teens that have health-related concerns or special needs. My practice focuses on emotional and physical support. I serve children with childhood cancer through various integrative yoga therapies, meditation, reiki, and EFT-Tapping. My practice serves a nonprofit organization Lucy's Love Bus, at Boston-based area hospitals weekly.
Tell us about yourself
I became a yoga teacher at RYT yoga teacher in 2009 because I noticed how yoga truly helped me with personal stress and anxiety. I taught classes at various studies in the Northshore Boston area. And I had a friend with Breast Cancer in 2010 ask me to work with her individually to support her with stress and anxiety during her treatment phase. Then just a year later, I began working with adults with cancer through area nonprofits and teaching classes specifically to address cancer.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In 2018 I began working with children in pediatric cancer through the nonprofit Lucy's Love Bus, and also that same year became a children's author as well. It has been quite an inspiring journey.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think specifically the emotional part of seeing the families I work with struggle emotionally while their child is in treatment for cancer.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The saying "Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life, is so true!" Not that you won't have stress because you will, but you will always go to work with a sense of purpose and passion.
