Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in game development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Max Albert, Co-Founder of AppStop.io, located in Ann Arbor, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a game studio, and we make mobile games for influencers.

Tell us about yourself

I grew up as a gamer. My fondest childhood memories are of my friends and I all crowding around a small TV playing Super Smash Bros on the game cube. I love how gaming can bring people together—some of my best friends I've made through gaming. I believe the community is what motivates me to build.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our last mobile game Deep Pass Jam landed on the iOS top 100 iOS free sports games list! At one point, our game was outperforming WWE's Superslam game.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Sales. To be an entrepreneur, it's important to be persistent, optimistic, and have thick skin. For every 100 people that you connect with, only 1 may actually want your product. It's impossible not to take certain losses personally.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Develop a strong support system and healthy habits. Don't sacrifice your mental or physical health for the company.
  2. Connect with advisors and other founders who can give you more tailored advice to your situation.
  3. Play the long game. It's not going to happen overnight. Just make your product 1% better every day by talking to users, figuring out their problems, and doing research.
