Sponge Painting for Everyone! - Art For All Ages

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Steve Faver, Owner of Art For All Ages, located in Brighton, MI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Art For All Ages, Inc. performs Live In-Person Art Classes exclusively for Retirement Communities with our Unique Sponge Painting System. We are also available Online for Video Art Classes. The Communities we serve (but are not limited to this list) are Atria, Brookdale, Belmont Village, Holiday Retirement, Oakmont, Pacifica, Silverado, Sunrise Senior Living, etc.

Tell us about yourself

We've been in business for 8 years (with a slight gap during the pandemic). I started the business in Oceanside, CA; when I came up with the concept of making beautiful paintings with nothing more than a Sponge, it was so easy everyone could do it! After a short while, more communities were wanting our Art Program than I could do by myself, so I started to hire other artists and train them on my system; soon, we were doing over 100 Art Classes every month in 5 states. Then we added our online video art classes to accommodate communities where we do not have our Live Art Classes. Serving others and seeing the joy they have from being able to create a painting better than they ever thought they would is such a rewarding feeling; it's what inspires all of us who work with Art For All Ages!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Bringing the joy of Art into the lives of seniors who never thought they could paint. Also, the artist who works for us, they feel so accomplished. They never thought they would make money with their art.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Employee Turn Over, finding caring Artists who understand we are working to make a difference in the lives of the communities we serve.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start a business that you are passionate about.
  2. Start small and work your way up, never asking your employees to do something you haven't done yourself.
  3. Growing only happens when you finally get yourself out of the trenches of the daily work and see beyond where you are, and look to see what you can become (Have a vision!).

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be prepared to work long hours and be dedicated to the business, but not at the sacrifice of your life and family! Knowing this that with God, All Things are Possible!
