Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Asia Dore, Founder of Asia Dore, LLC, located in Sheboygan, WI, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a brand strategist for ambitious entrepreneurs who want to use their businesses not only for income but also as a tool to impact their communities positively. Basically, my clients and I are out here trying to change the world with our businesses, and we legitimately couldn’t care less how cliché that sounds!

Tell us about yourself

My business was forged from realizing I wanted agency over how my work contributes to society instead of being crammed into a position at someone else’s company that doesn’t allow me to fully utilize my unique skills. Through the years, I’ve learned a lot of people feel the same way they have a big vision for their work but no idea how to connect their vision to their business model. I’ve discovered the key to the connection is brand strategy, and I’m motivated by helping my fellow entrepreneurs develop theirs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment isn’t an award, accolade, or even milestone. It’s my intentional decision to challenge and revolutionize the norms of my industry. Branding is so much more powerful than trendy aesthetics and calculated attempts to control public perception - your brand is your guideline for how your business can most effectively show up in the world. I’m having a blast helping entrepreneurs build brands that allow them to make money AND make a difference!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Nobody is around to tell us what to do. We’re burdened (and blessed!) with the responsibility of making all the decisions, and we’re the ones who have to deal with the consequences of those decisions. That’s why it’s crucial to develop self-trust and intuition as quickly as possible: no one is coming to save us, but we have the power to save ourselves.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Grow a community based on values instead of a client pool based on offers - a successful business comes down to genuine relationships.
  2. Learn to view failure as part of the success process - figuring out what doesn’t work is often just as important as figuring out what does.
  3. Start building your brand immediately instead of pushing it to the back burner - a strong brand makes your business more recognizable, efficient, marketable, effective, impactful, and fun!
