Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jared Erni, Founder of Attract to Scale, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help local-based businesses attract more customers without expensive advertising using Google Business Profile and Attraction Marketing frameworks. We offer coaching and courses that empower business owners to take more control of their marketing instead of relying on expensive traditional methods or handing over the lifeblood of their businesses to agencies.

Tell us about yourself

In 2013 I founded the largest indoor digital billboard company in Georgia. I spent 8 years building the business to 200 gyms and restaurants that hosted our digital displays, providing an alternative to outdoor billboards for local businesses.

Through the challenges of growing our business, I discovered the frameworks we use today to help local businesses grow, called Attraction Stacking. After seeing our growth with these frameworks, I started using them without clients, and we found it worked for all sorts of businesses, from health & wellness to home services.

If there were people searching for a local business in their area, these frameworks allow business owners to cut through the noise, attract higher quality customers, and nurture leads to appointments more efficiently than traditional Facebook ads, direct mail, traditional SEO, and even out-performed most agency results for our clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've helped nearly 150 local business owners through our high-level coaching program and hundreds of businesses in various workshops, events, and courses. It's so fulfilling to see the impact these frameworks have on my client's business and personal life. Most local business owners don't even pay themselves what they're worth... so to see their businesses doubling in a short period of time, increasing their income and impact is very fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Entrepreneurs are a different breed. Most people don't understand why we do the things we do... why we sacrifice so much, risk so much, to build something great that impacts others' lives. It's not easy, but it's so worth it. We have a calling inside that's driving us to create. It's not always easy listening to that calling and persevering through challenges, but we don't stop. We keep building.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Most people start by thinking of a cool product or service to offer, then trying to find the customers to buy it. You can increase your odds of success greatly by doing the opposite. First, focus on "who" you want to serve. Find out what they desire most and what their biggest pain points are, and create a product or service to solve this. You won't have to "chase" sales, and you'll have already found your "ideal customers."
  2. Less selling, more helping. Give freely, no strings attached. If you help others get the things they want most in life, you'll be given everything you want. Because success isn't just about income, it's about growth and impact too.
  3. Put in the time and energy to become the best at what you do. Everyone wants a shortcut to success... usually, these shortcuts don't work. Focus on being the best, providing the most value, and creating a real impact in others' lives. Your compensation will grow in direct relation to the amount of impact you create in others' lives.
