Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fashion but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ce Ce Chin, Founder of Babos, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Babos are shoes inspired by traditional “genie” Aladdin slippers and evolved for comfort with bouncy, treaded sneaker outsoles. Customers are women looking for elegant and easy-to-walk in leather sneakers that don’t quite look like sneakers.

Tell us about yourself

I used to wear heels and longed for an elegant and easy-to-walk-in sneaker for my busy lifestyle. I designed the original shoes for myself, with the needs of a modern metropolitan woman in mind. I’m always looking at women and their footwear choices and curious about how I can best serve them with my designs. When it’s a match, I feel so happy and energized to continue.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Some customers collect Babos and own up to 15 pairs and counting….

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You have to be constantly looking for new sales opportunities. Even if you know your target market, you need to find new ways to get in front of them or new ways of presenting your brand.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. START: Just start! Try putting your product or service “out there” and learn from the reaction.
  2. RUN: Learn from your sales- why did they purchase, what appealed to them and how can you replicate that?
  3. GROW: invest in what can generate more revenue, be it products or systems. Keep your brain fresh to find new opportunists, and delegate or outsource tasks that take you away from that mindset.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. This means you need to manage your energy levels and rest and recharge!
