Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joseph Kleynjans, CEO of Bactronix Corp., located in Moon Township, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Bactronix is a science-based microbial control company specializing in testing and treating for mold, bacteria, viruses, and odor. In addition, we have a division that cleans and disinfects air ducts. Our customers are residential homeowners and commercial businesses.

Tell us about yourself

I started the business in 2011, realizing there was a great need to test and treat for contamination. More than 90% of infections are caused by "cross-contamination." In 2011, the serious concept of preventing and treating contaminated surfaces was not getting much attention.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have managed and owned a total of 5 businesses. My largest accomplishment was to start a company from scratch in 1986 in energy control systems and environmental management systems. After 16 years, I sold the business, and at this point, the company had established worldwide distribution.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being able to create and provide opportunities to strengthen and grow the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. When you start, make sure the timing and location are correct.
  2. Write a strong and realistic business plan.
  3. Have the capital that is required according to your business plan.
