Tell us about yourself

I started Baytech over 15 years ago with the idea that if I helped my fellow business owners grow and succeed that I would have a fulfilled business life. I focus on building brands and what keeps us motivated is our clients. They are the ones who must face multiple challenges every day, so if we can help to make the marketing side work in a dynamic manner, they will have a better opportunity to grow and succeed at their goals and dreams. The old adage that "Sales fixes almost everything" has never been more true today than it was 50 years ago.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe building a great team is my biggest accomplishment. Watching them every day to get better, learn more and help our clients is the biggest joy of my day and most important accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The "hats" - The daily and weekly duties required to run a business- As an owner, especially in a small business, you must wear multiple "hats" every day, and on many days it's at the same time! Bookkeeping, sales, customer support, marketing, tax person, inventory control, supply chain management, and so many more are numerous "hats," and having to balance each one each day and week can become a daunting challenge. This is why, in my opinion, the stats of startups - that 80% fail in the first five years is accurate - It is a LOT and takes a special person to manage the pressures that come with Entrepreneurship.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I have a few simple philosophies I have developed… It will take twice as long and cost three times as much as any projection you make today (sorry - true story). And the Magic 2 is your first goal - Get two years under your belt, 2 locations or "trucks" on the road, and have two employees. If you can get to the magic 2's, you have a high probability of "making it" Good luck – it's a challenge but making your own rules and living your life on your terms is the ultimate reward. Money is good, but controlling your time is more important.
