Inclusive Wellness Experience - Bee There or Bee Square Yoga

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Melissa Berry, Owner of Bee There or Bee Square Yoga, located in Oakville, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Bee There, or Bee Square Yoga, was created to help women find new ways to empower themselves and discover the strength they have inside and out. I am determined to help women, especially mothers, find how powerful and strong they can be physically, mentally, or emotionally. From managing stress and anxiety from all aspects of life, I provide their different mindsets and tips for personal development.

Tell us about yourself

I am Melissa, a mother, a wife, a career woman, a business owner, a yoga instructor, a meditation practitioner, and a holistic life coach. In my mid-20s, I discovered a passion for endurance training, fitness, nutrition, and health. I love to learn and share my findings with whoever wants to listen.

I have learned to be confident and strong, which I share with my daughter to ensure she is empowered to be the best version of herself. Twelve years ago, I started my wellness journey when I became an adult. I was struggling with depression and was put on various medications. One thing my doctor required me to do was to see a therapist, which I did. During my sessions, she helped me work on my stress, understand my patterns and behaviors, and where it all started.

At the time, it didn't seem much, with perspective. I could see that it changed the course of my life and created a domino effect. One thing led to another, and mental and physical health became a priority. I became a priority. That same feeling and discovery I made, I want that for my clients. Everyone has this influential person inside. They have to find out who it is.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having a business is easy. You sign some documents online, and you get one. Learning everything there is to know about building a meaningful business and spending hours on the little things that matter but are not fun is a challenge.

I try not to get defeated by every little thing that happens. I can learn every day and grow with my business. I am happy to have found a way to be myself in my business. I found some partnerships to help me grow, find meaningful clients and build something I genuinely believe in.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The amount of work you put in, especially at first because you do have to build a sustainable system that works for you, takes time. You won't make money immediately and might not even have clients for a while. You have to keep trying different things over and over again.

It's not a miracle thing that happens all of a sudden. It's the fruit of your labor and a lot of effort. You have to be ready to fail and readjust all the time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be patient and realistic. It will take a while before you can create something that works for you.
  2. Be ready to learn and ask others for help if you don't know. Facebook groups can be a great place to find amazing people to ask questions.
  3. Don't skip steps because you don't feel like doing them. It's easy to find yourself doing what is fun, but it's not realistic for the survival of your business.
