What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Belgard, we strive to maintain the tradition of offering complete grooming services at the hands of our experts in a relaxed atmosphere. Haircuts and traditional straight blade shaves are offered to maintain your well-being and appearance – for whatever life throws at you.

Tell us about yourself

I started my career at a young age before opening my first salon in Dubai. After a successful career in UAE, our family emigrated to Canada, where I continued to do what I love. Belgard is my vision of how men should care for themselves and how they should be taken care of.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The pandemic was a huge challenge for many small businesses, including ours. The fact is, it feels like we had to start from scratch with many new hurdles and challenges to overcome. As business and clients return, I feel very proud that we are still here and ready to greet them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner, everything is your responsibility. Everything is your fault. Everything is on your shoulders. I am lucky to have a strong support system around me as well as a loving family, but at the end of the day, the shop is always on my mind.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, be in the business of making yourself proud. If you are not rewarded for doing good work, you will not hang on through the challenges. Secondly, surround yourself with the best possible team to support each other and share a common goal. Finally, don't ask for life to be easy, but ask yourself to be strong enough to face it.
