What's your business, and who are your customers?

Berry Clean Soaps is a manufacturer of natural cold process soaps for people with sensitive skin. We are a multi-brand company producing a CPG product and a hard tech product.

Tell us about yourself

I started Berry Clean Soaps back in the summer of 2020 to help soothe my daughter's eczema. From there, we have grown so much that now we are selling at 4 Meijer stores in Michigan. Making a product that is free of harsh chemicals motivates me to make it more accessible to the people who need it the most.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment in my business has been remaining nimble enough and coachable but firm at the same time. This has allowed me to pivot at the right moments without losing the essence of my mission.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The dynamic change in marketing has been really challenging. What worked in marketing four years ago changes every so often nowadays. It has been essential to remain creative and think outside the box.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Customer discovery. Get to know your customers first, study them, and see what they want.
  2. Organize your thoughts on where you want to be in 10 years and build a plan around that.
  3. Execute your plan, and if you feel like there are no opportunities in your area, create them.
