Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kevin Masson, Founder, and CEO of Biofit Performance, located in Oviedo, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own and operate a strength conditioning facility located in Oviedo, Florida. We train everyone from professional athletes to day-to-day weekend warriors. We offer personal training, group training, nutrition, and a variety of recovery modalities. That's what makes us unique; we treat everyone like a pro athlete, and the moment you step foot inside the facility, you are surrounded by a team of professionals that take care of everything for you. Training, Nutrition, Sleep, Stress, we basically create a blueprint to achieve the optimal lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I was always into fitness and training. After a brief career as a professional rugby player in the UK, I embarked on a path to fulfill a dream of mine to move to the US and train professional athletes. After graduating and working in the D1 college strength conditioning staff, I decided that the best option for me was to create my vision in the private sector and offer my skills to everyone. What motivates me daily is to see my vision being real, All of our members are getting results, and we are changing lives for the greater.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest business accomplishment is to build a 12,000 sq/ft facility from scratch and run it successfully to thrive as the best facility/gym in Central Florida. 2022 we have been voted by Channel 9 as the best in town.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Everything falls on you; you are the last line of defense, so you have to be ready at all times. You have to be able to transition from marketing, management, sales, HR, and coaching.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Culture is king; creating a culture within your business is critical for success. Not just with your customers but also with your team. when people think of your brand, they need to be able to associate the image that you created with the name. The same goes with staff; everyone should be on the same page, using the same languages and being able to follow the culture that the brand shows.
  2. The second piece of advice is people, and this follows closely with culture. Surround yourself with good people that you trust and who want to grow the company with you. This is important because you may not be around all the time, but you have to make sure that everything runs the way you want it to run.
  3. My final piece of advice is to create a routine or build habits. "Failing to plan is planning for failure" you need to have a successful routine, as I call it, that will keep you in discipline and avoid procrastination.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am always happy to help other entrepreneurs. I have done several podcasts on health and fitness, but business has been something I want to share more of lately.
