Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Gary Remy, CEO of Bizopia, located in Fort Bend, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Bizopia; we are a digital marketing firm specializing in boosting online visibility for small and medium-sized businesses throughout Greater Houston and Beyond. We work with companies in all types of industries, mostly in the B2B sphere.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a proud Aggie, married to my beautiful wife Melanie whom I share three wonderful children with. I created Bizopia back in 2002 after selling a wildly successful website company to Prodigy. We started off selling websites to businesses as the internet started becoming more popular and more and more people were getting home computers that connected to the web. Since then, we've grown to provide a whole host of services designed to help businesses achieve better brand recognition and increase revenue through things like search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, and social media marketing.

The biggest motivation for me to get up in the morning is to help other business owners like myself find success and increase business so they can keep paying their employees, feeding their families, and providing great service to our community. That's what really drives me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been assembling a rockstar team that I trust to take care of our clients, several of whom are my friends. It's surprisingly hard to find the right people that I absolutely know will do their best every day, but I think we've found that which I consider a major accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is making sure we're always moving forward. It's so easy to get stuck in the now and not think about the future, but that's the only way you grow and stay afloat as a small business. Make sure that innovation is at the very top of my mind so I can guide Bizopia through another 21 successful years challenge, but an exciting one.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top three tips for someone who wants to start a business today are:

  1. Work harder than anyone else on your team.
  2. Make sure you have a good team around you so you can delegate as needed.
  3. Align yourself with other successful people, both professionally and socially, so you can learn what they're doing to drive success. These are things I do in my own life that I believe have helped me create and grow Bizopia into what it is today.
