Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ashley Doerwald, founder of Bloom Your Biz, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Bloom Your Biz is a full-service creative agency that empowers business owners through holistic branding, website, and digital solutions. Our clients are purpose-driven souls who dedicate their time and energy to making the world a better place.

Tell us about yourself

As a traveler at heart, I was constantly searching for a solution that would bring me workplace freedom while amplifying the voices I respected and believed in. I've always had a soft spot for do-gooders and the value they bring, and it was such a natural transition for me to begin creating brand identities and dynamic web pages to promote their services and offerings. Now, my main priority is empowering other business owners to achieve their own version of workplace freedom while doing work they truly love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Through my business, I’ve been able to connect with amazing entrepreneurs and provide them with the resources they need to build their own version of success! Nothing is more satisfying than providing other business owners the tools they need to feel determined and accomplished in their work and life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Setting your own boundaries with your business, especially as someone who is lucky to work remotely. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in a project, especially when work doesn't really feel like a chore. But, I really value the growth and connection that happens offline, so establishing the boundaries needed to refill my cup are extremely necessary.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You’ll never be perfectly ready, just start and make natural progress as the opportunities come your way.
  2. Figure out your processes and SIMPLIFY. Automate as many repetitive tasks as possible so that you can focus on doing the work you truly love, ultimately prolonging the 'honeymoon stage' with your business.
  3. Treat your customers like humans, and don't always focus on the sale. Building relationships will do so much more for your business than making that one sale.
