Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Candy Jackson, Owner of Blossom Yoga & Wellness, located in Concord, NH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My company is Blossom Yoga & Wellness. We are a yoga studio in the heart of downtown Concord, NH. Our customers are a diverse community of yoga students who find wellness through our classes and workshops.

Tell us about yourself

I began practicing yoga in the early 1990s, which eventually led to my yoga teacher training in 2017. From there, I began teaching yoga anytime and anywhere that I could. I was teaching at Blossom when the opportunity arose to take over the studio. To be honest, I was very hesitant at first, but I eventually took the leap, and it has been the best career decision I've ever made. At the age of 51, I finally began doing what I love full-time, and I could not be happier. Working in the world of yoga brings so much joy, love, and positivity, and I wake up each morning grateful for another day of sharing yoga with the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

When I took over the studio in 2022, attendance was at an all-time low. The studio is in its 17th year, but it took a pretty big hit during the pandemic. I was fortunate enough to gain some amazing yoga instructors, and we have worked hard and diligently to get students back in our doors. Every month is better than the month before, and we hear students say quite often that we are "their happy place."

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's a lot of work! More than I realized. My in-basket is never empty, so learning to take time off even when there are a hundred things to do has been my biggest challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Choose something you love, and it wouldn't feel so much like work.
  2. Commit yourself to your business 100 percent; go all in.
  3. Be patient. If you love what you do and are fully committed, success will come in time.
