Post-Retirement(?) reverted by applying my engineering skill set to heating and ultimately developing the "Neo-Gravity Hydronic Heating Appliance" (TM).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

D-b-a "Mercier Engineering" I provided Manufacturing Process Development Services to a gamut of Computer Hardware & Software, Magnetics, Laser, Plasma, Lighting, and Ball Bearing Manufacturers. Now being able to re-apply my skills to a unique and forward-looking venture is particularly rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Developing the broad skill set required to operate a technical business as a single operator and access external resources as required.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Foremost, be certain that you are providing a product or service that is in demand, regardless of your personal preferences.
  2. Focus on the product/service objectives, critiquing and re-qualifying them routinely.
  3. Be certain that you have, in particular, a supportive and understanding spouse/family required to tolerate an "entrepreneur," or your life will be tenuous.
