Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brenda Hardwick, Owner of The Light Of Nature, located in Arvada, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is The Light Of Nature. I am an Angel Communicator, Energy Healer, Author, and Speaker. My customers are anyone learning and exploring their spirituality and people who want to read a good book. Whether newly awakened to the knowledge that there is more to us than existing or navigating the change in energies around us, I can help.

Tell us about yourself

I started my business about ten years ago after realizing that my job, and career, were not feeding my soul. I was not able to truly help the people I needed to because of laws and rules that prohibited such interaction. As a healer, I am able to guide people to the help they need, both 3D and spiritual. This satisfies me and keeps me coming into my office each day. It is a joy to help a person find their center and recognize their worth and value while helping them shed the fear that has kept them hiding.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that I set out to get my name out there and began pulling clients from everywhere I went and whoever I met within the year after I started. I knew I'd made it when I had another healer ask me to see someone who came to her at a metaphysical fair because she felt I was a better fit for the client. After that first year, I was able to afford my own office space and continue to do well.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a business owner, there are so many people out there who say that they can help you build your business. Many of them are only trying to build their own. Knowing when to say 'no' to an offer that just sounds too good to be true is difficult. Especially when the person talking seems to know exactly what you need. This is where I used my knowledge from working in corporate and government. It doesn't matter what the salesperson is offering you to help you in your business; if they don't reflect the prosperity they are promising you, say no.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start slow. If you don't have the time, begin with a part-time schedule. If you don't have the supplies or products, offer your goods on commission so that you control how many widgets you need to have completed. If you don't have the income FROM THE BUSINESS to cover the needs of the business, wait for the office space, furniture, and hiring help. The quickest way to fail today is to bite off more than you can chew right in the beginning. Chasing the dollar only keeps you chasing.
