Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in pesnonal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Scott Youngerman, Founder of Brother Nature Beards, located in Asheville, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At BNB, we make all-natural beard products. Our customers are typically bearded men and women purchasing products for men.

Tell us about yourself

Before I started BNB, I was a chef for almost 20 years. While I was serving in the military, I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and forced to retire. I now have 3 amazing kiddos that I stay home with and take care of. I really needed something else to help keep me balanced. That’s when I started BNB. It motivates me because, as a disabled veteran, I want to show others that even though you have a disability, it shouldn’t stop you from living your life. I’ve always tried to push forward regardless of some of the obstacles that were put in front of me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Not giving up! Sometimes being a business owner is really stressful. There have been multiple times that I felt like stopping because it was too much. It’s better to push through that and have a positive attitude.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is second-guessing yourself. Over the years, I’ve learned to stay true to my decisions.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. I would say to start small and simple. You can always add or change things as your business starts to progress.
  2. Networking is also a big one. To get your name out there, you need to network and collaborate with other people and businesses.
  3. Listen to feedback from customers. It’s important to at least try and see it from their point of view. Good customer service goes a long way with people.
