What's your business, and who are your customers?

When you are looking for a brownie, and all you can find are cupcake, cookie, and donut shops, it's time to head to the brownie bar. Build-A-Brownie choose your brownie, and pick your toppings. We make all brownies and toppings from scratch with real ingredients.

While some of our customers are retail walk-ins, most of our revenue (over 60%) comes from events such as corporate outings, weddings, birthdays, and graduation parties.

Tell us about yourself

After driving around Omaha and seeing only cupcake, cookie, and donut shops, we found that it was difficult to find a good brownie, as well as any shop that only specialized in them. In 2019, Michael Mitilier and James Friedman opened Popup Brownies Bar, LLC (Brownie Bar) in Omaha, Nebraska.

Keeping with the "Bar" theme, we offer crafted (made from scratch) single brownies, flights, and brownie packs in three, six-pack, twelve-pack, twenty-four (case), and thirty-six (party pack).

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is that we have been open and profitable for three years.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is juggling the many hats we wear.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your market research while starting small. For us, that was testing the concept at farmers' markets.
  2. Focus on doing one or two things well.
  3. Keep your finances in check. Real estate and human resources are your two biggest expenses.
