Tell us about yourself

What motivates me every day is the work we are doing and the opportunities we provide. Every day, I think about who is benefiting from our company - from the couple enjoying a Tuesday afternoon lunch date, our servers who are learning to lead within the company, and our franchisees who are building generational wealth by owning a Brunch location. Our vision has a purpose - and it's my job to execute it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been the growth that we have had in a short amount of time, which has been because of the amazing people who work here. I can't do it alone, and my role is to have the vision & execute it by overseeing and communicating effectively, and the team that surrounds me makes it happen.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing can be that everyone has an opinion about how to do things differently, better, quicker, slower, etc. It can be noisy and overwhelming. Sticking to my original vision (with tweaks, of course, along the way) has been challenging, but every time I stick to my guns, it's worth it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your vision - well, at least know where you want to go. That image will stay with you when things get challenging - and they will.
  2. Invest in your people - if you want any sort of clarity, you need help. You also cannot do it all, at least not well. Invest in people who do it better than you, and hire for your weaknesses.
  3. Listen. Listen in meetings. Listen to your clients. Listen to your employees. Take time to weed through the content later - but talk less, listen more.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Business ownership to me is like working all the time but never working - all at once. It's fulfilling, it's hard, it's stressful, and it's emotional - but I wouldn't pick another career.
