What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am the owner of a luxury candle brand. My target audience is someone who values self-care with a hint of Lux. I believe that something as simple as a candle can bring solace. We represent the best of both worlds.
Tell us about yourself
Before I started making candles, I was a nursing student taking care of patients. My school closed without warning forcing me to find a new passion. I looked into other ways I could contribute to helping. I found candles to be extremely relaxing and peaceful. Throughout my exploration of finding myself, candles became a daily ritual. One day I ordered a candle-making kit and fell in love. I began testing, and a luxury candle brand was born.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was finding my voice within myself. I created a path that I can follow and grow at my own pace. I am truly amazed at how much I’ve grown. I appreciate the process. I give myself goals that I can attain.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing is feeling alone in the beginning. I’ve found that taking time for yourself is extremely important. It is also great to appreciate the support system you have or create one.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Here are some tips to help future business owners. Prioritize yourself at all moments. From experience, I’ve learned to put myself first. I know it’s a saying, but you can not pour from an empty cup. Take time for yourself so that you are able to evaluate your business and come up with plans to execute your goals. My next tip would be to get a team. As business owners, we sometimes try to do everything alone. These only cause burnout whenever you can hire someone to help out. My last and final tip is to have fun and enjoy the process. We perform at our highest when we are happy and motivated.
