Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amer Haffar, founder, and COO of Dip N Dip Inc., located in Burlington, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

dipndip is the ultimate chocolate cafe. It is focused on creating a chocolate experience that starts with its unique tasting and artistic-looking desserts. Our customers can expect to experience the chocolate not only through taste but all their senses. We target all chocolate and dessert lovers.

Tell us about yourself

We strive to ensure that every customer experience is exceptional and that everyone who visits our cafés has a remarkable experience. We love the fact that people leave our café with a smile on their faces; this is what motivates me every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would say our biggest accomplishment is the transition from starting as a small kiosk and moving to the full-service dine-in café model. Thanks to our global expansion, dipndip now has more than 145 cafes in over 18 countries, and that’s just the beginning.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest issues is evolving as quickly as the market changes. We have seen this with the corona pandemic as we had to change our focus and strategy from dine-in to catering to guests at home.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I believe that to thrive in any market, our brand must continue to evolve and have a strong differentiation from competitors by continuously offering new items, improving our service, and creating closer relationships with our customers. Our global strategy follows the same formula of understanding the uniqueness of each local market and offering the products and services that our customers demand. There is no magic formula. It is very simple to understand but very hard to execute.
