Tell us about yourself

What happens when a Sales Executive, an HR Manager, Event Planner, and Operations Guru get together? You have the killer combination for business management. Throw in that they're family and VOILA...the perfect mix of love and hard work!

From the womb, (twins) Laurie and Ron have been inseparable, so it was no surprise when they decided that they wanted to go into business together. Their spouses, Chris and Salina, were both excited to get to work on what would be an amazing adventure!

After years of phone calls between the twins  (Ron and Laurie) discussing ideas for a potential business, the idea of creating a new experiential business that would appeal to adults and families alike is what inspired Candle Chemistry.

In March 2019, Candle Chemistry was born! Laurie, Chris, Ron & Salina have committed to bringing this new concept and the best, natural, materials for candles to Arizona to allow people to come in and connect while creating custom candles, body, or home products!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our greatest accomplishment is creating a new concept that can be enjoyed by all, and making it successful! Building a business that is family-friendly and allows for fun and creativity is an amazing feeling, especially through a pandemic.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most difficult part of business ownership is being on your own and independent. Owners must be self-starters and intrinsically motivated to be able to innovate and ensure the success of the business. Continuing to maintain a successful business through a pandemic was the most difficult thing to overcome, but also our proudest moment.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's not glamorous, you will work harder than you ever have when you own your own business. You will get out what you put in.
  2. Learn, and ask questions. If you don't know something, seek out information, from courses to business mentors, to just looking at the best most successful similar businesses, learn from those who have experience and knowledge.
  3. Competition is healthy- stay ahead of the curve and innovate. Don't allow yourself to stagnate. Keep moving, and stay 10 steps ahead.

Anything else you'd like to share?

When you start a business, you take risks, financial risks, emotional risks, etc. However, the statement of no risk, no reward could not be more true. That said, if being an entrepreneur is what you want to do, go for it, but know that serious grit, hard work, and perseverance is the only thing that will get you to your goal, whatever that may be. Be realistic, while still dreaming big, and always have the right balance of confidence and humility. If you want it, go get it!
