What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a clinical canine herbalist helping dogs find balance through herbs, flower essences, phytoembryonic therapies, and homeopathy. I have a full-time consulting practice in Olympia, Washington, and I work with people all over the world. I'm a speaker, author, teacher, and herbal medicine maker.
Tell us about yourself
I started out doing kennel-free dog boarding and realized how sick dogs were---poorly fed, over-vaccinated, and over-medicated. I decided then to dedicate my herbal practice to dogs and their people. I love educating people to be more self-sufficient and advocates for their dogs and connect with nature more. This motivates me every day to do what I do. I love it!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Speaking alongside veterinarians and getting a publishing contract about my life's work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Balancing work and relaxation. Taking time out for myself and making it as important as serving my clients.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Set your intention for your business and be clear about how you want it to look.
- Learn how to be ok with saying no.
- Don't over-extend yourself.
