Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Zach Zurn, Owner of Carpet Booth Studios, located in Rochester, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Carpet Booth Studios. We work with artists, bands, musicians, and brands to fulfill their creative vision through high-quality audio and music production and recording.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with writing and producing songs at a young age and always knew I was stubborn enough to do what I needed to do to make sure I was doing that as much as I could. I graduated college and decided to hop into the industry. I worked side jobs and such to supplement income until I had established my name enough to jump in full-time - the best decision I ever made. My motivation comes from passion - I feel like this is what wakes me up in the morning and gives me tons of joy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honored to have built a quality studio, worked on records I enjoy and earned awards and recognition for my work.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

All of the responsibilities and stress that come with the business side of things can be tough. Property ownership and maintenance, handling staff and interns, staying organized and efficient, etc., can be a struggle.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you’re not willing to be driven by a massive motivator like passion, then burnout is inevitable.
  2. You can’t do it all. Find a team and/or surround yourself with people who round you out.
  3. Find patience in your growth - slow and steady is fine.
