What's your business, and who are your customers?
Chasses 'n Lattes is a segment of the Winchester Media Group that provides inspiration, workouts, and coaching for the everyday dancer. As someone who started dancing as a teenager, I understand the hesitation and doubt that creeps into your mind before your first class. "What if I'm too old to start? Do I even look like a dancer?" Chasses 'n Lattes aims to break the barriers of dance and show that dance is a universal language that everyone can enjoy and participate in at any age without the pressure of being perfect.
Tell us about yourself
Chasses 'n Lattes is the first site within Winchester Media Group. It originally started as my blog, where I shared my fitness journey and eventually my experience with starting ballet as an adult. The more I posted and shared my story, the more I realized there were others who were going through the same journey as I was. Without that sense of community and support, reaching my own goals would have been much more difficult. Today, I continue to share my journey and knowledge to give back to the dance community and help others reach their goals. Hearing about a client who reached their nutrition goal or seeing a student nail a move they have been working so hard on brings me so much joy!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was being able to leave my 9-5 and launch my business right before the pandemic. It is hands down one of the scariest decisions I have made in my life, but it is without a doubt one of the best decisions I have made!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is maintaining faith in yourself. Without someone above you to lead and direct you, it is easy to feel lost and uncertain, especially during the early stages of your business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My first tip would be to take the time to define your target audience. It's hard to reach an audience if you don't know who they are! Knowing your audience will also help make sure your brand stands out to the right people and that your overall message is clear.
Next, develop good habits that promote the growth of your business, no matter how small those habits might be. It could be something as little as responding to three comments on social media. When you start your business, you'll likely feel extremely motivated and ready to take on the world, which is great! But the truth is, not every day is going to be like that. When you're already in the habit of getting things done, it makes things a little bit easier to get through the day.
Finally, take care of yourself! You can't pour from an empty cup! Take a break every once and a while and treat yourself. Don't let yourself get burned out and lose passion for something you love.
