Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food service but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Aneel Hergash, a Personal Chef, based in Scarborough, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I’m a personal chef. I cook for a variety of clients, birthdays, anniversaries, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and company retreats, to mention a few.

Tell us about yourself

I used to work for one of Canada’s largest restaurant groups, but I always wanted to work for myself and directly with clients.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am still growing my business. The majority of my clients are referrals from past clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The uncertainty of the business, sometimes you are very busy, and other times you have nothing booked. Hoping to find some consistency as I continue to build my business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep at it. Starting out on your own is never easy.
  2. Continue to evolve and reinvest in your business.
  3. Don’t give up; there are always bumps on the road but keep going.
