Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cheryl Meyer, founder of Cheryl M Health Muse, Inc., located in Arcadia, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a health coach, an author of 2 award-winning books and an international bestseller, an International podcaster, a magazine article writer, a top 500 influencer for Brainz Magazine, an international digital magazine, and a teacher. I want to inspire American to change how they eat and live to improve the quality of their life. My clients are people who struggle with chronic illnesses and have not found solutions through allopathic medicine. I help people make lifestyle changes that can impact their health dramatically. I also help clients that want to live healthier lives. Now at 73, I feel better than I did in my 50's, and I strive to inspire others also to feel their best.

Tell us about yourself

I was an entrepreneur with my own jewelry business and designed jewelry for major retailers. As I was building my successful business, I was not practicing self-care. Seven years ago, I woke up in pain. Every joint and every muscle in my body hurt. I went to my conventional allopathic MD. After running multiple tests over many visits, she offered me steroids, suggested nothing was wrong with me and wanted me to seek mental therapy.

I was not going to live a life of pain and pills. I turned my business over to my staff and started researching. I tripped into summits being run by the functional medical community. I watched 19 of them and all of the doctor's presentations. I figured out I probably had an autoimmune disease and toxic load and that there were two things I could do for myself right away.

I could lower my stress and eliminate toxins in my environment to lower my toxic load. As I started to research, I was appalled that toxins were everywhere. I found stress exercises I now do daily, and I eliminated hundreds of toxins in my life. I found a Functional MD who confirmed that I had an autoimmune disease. Together, we eliminated my pain and lowered my inflammation. At 67, I returned to school to become a health coach so that I could share everything I had learned and help others.

I wrote an award-winning book (17awards). It Feels Good to Feel Good; learn to Eliminate Toxins, Reduce Inflammation, and Feel Great Again. A year later, I wrote a second book on how I sustain my newfound lifestyle, Feeling Good Living Low Toxin in Community and Everyday Life. (7 awards) I have done over 250 podcasts as a guest and 18 summits about toxins and how to improve our health with what IS in our own control.

I have my own podcast for the last two years called It Feels Good to Feel Good, Futureproof your health. It is done in 2 segments. In some shows, I just talk about a subject that will help everyone's health. The second part is Tell Me Your Story, where I speak to others who got sick, owned it, changed their lifestyle, and returned to relative wellness. I have done interviews with cancer survivors, heart attack survivors, people with Crohn's disease, people with depression, someone with a sleeping disorder, a human trafficking victim, and more. Wonderful stories to inspire others to own their own lifestyle and health.

I have an online course 'Ditch the SAD (Standard American Dier) and Cut the CRAP (Carbonated, Refined, Artificial, Processed), to get rid of the sugar and toxic chemicals that are in our food and making us sick as a population. I am rolling out a new Class this year on called 'Food Quality Matters- How to Get More From Your Organic Buck to overcome the objections of people who say they can't afford to eat organic (they can't afford not to), how to do it, where to find quality food, what they need to know about quality food, quality protein, and I include a class on Vegan protein sources, how to utilize the entire fruits and vegetable, and cut down on food waste, and the everything to know about the most important vegetables and fruit, when it is in season, how to find diversity which is important for our health, how to pick the best specimen, how long does it keep its minerals and vitamins and its phytonutrients, all of which bring health to our body. I cover how to store it, how to use all parts of it that are edible, and how many toxins are sprayed on it if it is not organic. Researching and writing this class has changed how I do food, and the information is priceless.

I encourage everyone to read my books, take my classes, and listen to my podcasts. It can be life/health-changing information. My next project is to help people discover their own toxic load and then offer "Tiny" courses that they can listen to so that they can lower that factor and improve their health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My Ditch the SAD Diet and Cut The Crap have changed the trajectory of many people's health. You can read the Testimonials on my blog on my website. https://cherylmhealthmuse.com/blog/ I am very proud of this class and the results that people get after taking it. Writing my new course is also a big accomplishment because I share information that is not commonly available that will continue people on their journey to health.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Selling my service in a way that honors my intention. I want to help as many people as possible, but I also want to be paid for my expertise. I have learned to sell by sharing invaluable information.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

This is not my first business which was very helpful even though this business is very different than my previous businesses.

  1. Stay focused on the results that you want to achieve.
  2. Execute a long-term plan. Where is it you would like your business to be in 3 years, and what are all the things you can do today to make that a reality. I consider myself a bricklayer; I have built my business one layer at a time, all headed toward my long-term goal.
  3. When you have success, don't be afraid to ask for Testimonials and publish them. They are proof of Concept. I want to inspire clients to do things differently than most of America, but they will get enormous benefits from what I offer and suggest. They will need the encouragement of those that made the changes before them.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am still on my own health journey, and as I learn new things, I love to share them with others in hopes that it will inspire them to walk in my food prints. Although I no longer have pain, I will always have an autoimmune disease. I am a compassionate coach, and I listen to what my clients tell me, and then we set goals according to what they want to accomplish. I hold my clients accountable for their goals and then help them achieve them by sharing all of the tips I have learned along the way.

We have so much more power over our own health than we have been led to believe. We need our allopathic doctors, but while we are adopting their approach, we need to be making the lifestyle changes that will help our bodies heal at the same time. Being ill is being out of balance. There is no magic pill. The lifestyle changes that I encourage can make a long-term difference to your future health.
