Experience Serious Skin Rejuvenation - Claudette Jean

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skin care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Claudette Pilgrim, Owner of Claudette Jean, located in Bay Shore, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is Claudette Jean, named from my first and middle name. Having worked as an esthetician for over 19 years, my specialty is helping people, women, and men on their skincare journey. My studio serves people who want to improve their skin without the fuss. Having worked in spas and spaces where the focus is to get people onto the next shiny object and the next "it" treatment, I simply focus on seriously taking care of their skin, hence my tagline "serious skin rejuvenation." I see myself as a skincare coach and not a business owner just trying to sell something.

Tell us about yourself

I worked a corporate job for the first half of my life but was always intrigued with the skin, how it works and how to preserve it. That lust for knowledge pushed me to get my esthetics license. After that, I worked with a few big spas, learning all that I could. In 2015 I decided that I had the expertise to be the skin care therapist that I would want to take care of my skin. So Claudette Jean was born out of this.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the trust and respect that I get from my clients.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that you have to wear many hats. Unfortunately, some hats are too big, and others might be too small. By that, I mean that working on my business is as challenging as much as it is frustrating. Tasks outside the actual working with clients are difficult.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Continue to educate yourself both in your treatment as well as about business mastery.
  2. Make sure your customers have the best experience before, during, and after seeing you.
  3. Provide solutions to your client, don't just try to sell them the next thing.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be clear as to who you want to serve and not try to serve everyone. Perfect your craft.
