Get in the Best Shape of Your Life - Core10 Pilates

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Wendy Erven, Owner of Core10 Pilates, located in Omaha, NE, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Core10 is an athletic Pilates studio specializing in group fitness reformer classes. Our clients are busy people dedicated to fitness as part of their lifestyle. Athletic people love this type of training. They want an effective and fun workout that strengthens, lengthens, and tones their entire body in every 50-minute session.

Tell us about yourself

I created the Core10 method when I was the Yoga and Pilates Trainer for an NFL team. The coaches wanted me to teach their players a more athletic form of Pilates reformer instead of traditional Pilates. I was the right person to do this because I already had many years of teaching many other fitness formats in addition to Pilates: barbell, free weights, interval training, kickboxing, and Yoga. I created a highly effective version of reformer Pilates that gives faster results than traditional Pilates. I started teaching this style in all of my reformer classes and eventually opened Core10 Pilates in Omaha, Nebraska. Seeing people get stronger, more fit, and more flexible is what motivates me. I love to see fitness changing the way people look, feel, and move.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The biggest accomplishment is having a business that's been voted as the Best of Omaha for Pilates Studios since we opened in 2016. People vote, and we are awarded this honor annually.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that it consumes much of my mind, energy, and time, much more than any job could. I constantly think of new ways to grow and improve the business, and then we're implementing those ideas.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a detailed business plan, set business policies, and use it as a guide, knowing that you can and will update it, change it, and improve it as you go. It's ok to build the plane while you're flying it, but you must have a model created to get it off the ground.
  2. Your team is the #1 key to the success of your business. Hire team members for their passion for life, personality, loyalty, and belief in your business concept.
  3. Educate yourself consistently - join mastermind groups, personal growth events and training, and a wide variety of business conferences and webinars. Things are constantly changing, and to be successful, you must be ahead of the curve, leading the way rather than catching up.
