Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Michelle Thompson, Founder of Cornole Meesh, located in Oroville, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I work with cornhole players (and aspiring cornhole players) to master their bodies and minds on and off the courts.

Tell us about yourself

I started helping women with topics like binge eating, emotional eating, body image, weight, and chronic dieting because I struggled with these things. I was most interested in how the mind influences the body physically. When I started playing cornhole and working for the American Cornhole League, I noticed how much of a mental game this sport was. So I decided to focus on helping players master their minds to impact their gameplay and overall life. I love watching people see results in their external lives by focusing on their internal worlds.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is attracting the attention of the American Cornhole League through my content and business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest part of being a business owner is trusting the process. You are your own boss, so there's nobody to rely on. When things get rocky, it's easy to want to quit, but trust allows you to persevere and achieve the goals you set out for yourself.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be flexible. My first business was helping people lose weight. If I were attached to it looking that exact way, I would have eliminated all these other ways I can help people with my expertise and experience.
  2. Always take advantage of opportunities. There have been times when the opportunity seemed odd, but when something comes easily and effortlessly, it's best to go with it.
  3. Don't force ideas to happen. While it's important not to quit, it's also important not to force things that just aren't happening. Your life shouldn't feel like a major sacrifice for your business, and if it does, you might be slightly off-path.
