Get Out of the Dark Wood - Courtney Moore

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Courtney Moore, Owner of Courtney Moore Acupuncture & Intuitive Medicine, located in San Francisco, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run an intuitive medicine practice that combines classical Chinese medicine and psychic readings. I work with people who are stuck and in pain--whether physically or spiritually--and I use my tools (acupuncture, Tarot, herbs, meditation) to help them find alignment with their true path. My customers are motivated, heart-focused spiritual seekers who are intrigued by the interplay between mind and body.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a bodyworker, then became an acupuncturist, but I always felt like I was more of a technician. I would help people get out of pain and then send them back into the world to get all twisted up again. I developed my psychic skills and learned how to excavate the deep root of imbalances. The prospect of helping people really get out of suffering motivates me to keep growing my practice and connecting with people in need of healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm proud of myself for building a business that sustains me, reflects my deepest values, and allows me ample time to enjoy my life as well. This balance can be tricky, but it is so worthwhile!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It's hard to wear ALL the hats, and also hard to let yourself outsource the tasks that aren't your strong suits. Learning to be an excellent practitioner AND run a business takes a lot of energy and uses both sides of my brain every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Connect with work that really lights you up and brings you joy! That's always the right direction.
  2. Outsource whenever you can, whether that means hiring an accountant or getting someone to run your social media. Figure out what you do well and focus your energy there!
  3. Work with a coach or mentor who can walk you through the bumps in the road and keep you motivated and on target as you grow your business.
