Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal care but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Camille, Candace and Christine Oliver, Founders of Cubed Style, located in Scarborough, ON, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Cubed Style, we handcraft hair and body butters with ingredients you can pronounce. Our products cater to all genders, focusing on the age range of 18 to 60.

Tell us about yourself

We started our business in 2020, during the pandemic. Our eldest sister, Camille, was pregnant and experiencing severe eczema. Professionals told her to use the over-the-counter, generic, unscented body creams. She discovered that the body creams were not working for her skin, so we decided to handcraft our skin and hair care products.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as business owners was receiving the 2021 Business Owners of the Year Award at the 1st Annual Queen Hustle Women Empowerment Gala.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is continuing to find new and creative ways to promote our brand.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research. Research brands that are in the same industry that you would like to get into. Look into how much your supplies and goods will cost you to purchase.
  2. Save as much money as possible before starting a business. This is very important because starting a business without any (or enough) money saved is extremely difficult.
  3. In order to run and grow your business, it is essential to network and ask for help when needed. Network with other brands that are in your industry as well as brands that are in different industries will help further your business. We suggest signing up for popup markets as those are excellent ways to network and meet other vendors/brands.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

You will always have naysayers who might not believe in your business, but with passion and hard work, you will succeed.
