Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Anthony Coussa, Founder of Dadbod Apparel, located in Rocklin, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a family-owned and operated company that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for parents who balance it all. We create high-quality products that celebrate being a dad with apparel that can be worn in the gym or around town running errands/spending time with your kids.

Tell us about yourself

I started Dadbod Supply Co 5 years ago when we first found out we were pregnant with our son. I have always been into fitness and working out, so when we found out we were having our first kid, my friends started giving me a hard time and told me to start working on my dadbod. That was the light bulb moment, and I wanted to create a brand for those dads who stay fit after having kids. My motivation is the community we have built and my family. I want to make something that creates a feeling and emotion when you wear it. My family and children motivate me daily to keep growing our business and to create something that is bigger than just myself.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been seeing all the dads & moms who proudly wear our apparel during the biggest moments in their lives. Seeing pregnancy announcements, newborn photos, and professional photos has been an incredible experience and are so humbling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Over the last 3 years, there have been so many challenges and curve balls that have affected all small business owners. Trying to navigate and pivot and continue growing during these times has been very challenging but also equally as rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started; you'll never have everything perfect, and you'll learn so much along the way.
  2. Keep pushing and working hard on your brand even when you're tired and don't necessarily have the motivation or energy.
  3. Your customer and your branding are most important. Don't focus on the sale, but focus on what you can do/provide for your community.
