Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in dance education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Delight Divine Moore, CEO and Artistic Director of Dancing With Delight LLC., located in Winder, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Dancing With Delight LLC is a full-service Christian organization that brings illumination to the world through dance education. We delight in our ability to provide exemplary dance training and proficient professional talent. Our services include dance classes, choreography, private lessons, master classes, live performances, artist development, and curriculum development. The genres we teach are ballet, modern, hip-hop, lyrical, liturgical, and African dance. The company is designed to build and increase physical strength, flexibility, rhythm, coordination, body alignment, and confidence for all dancers.

Tell us about yourself

I started dancing at the age of four years old, then proceeded to a performing arts school where my giftings in the arts were cultivated. After high school, I desired to pursue the arts as a career and obtained my degree in Dance Education from Brenau University. After college, I began substitute teaching for dance teachers and spent months working at a special school for students with Severe and Profound Intellectual Disabilities (SID/PID).

After growing from these experiences, I desired to establish my own company, Dancing With Delight LLC, in 2017. This was after many prayers and tremendous support from my pastors of Divine Visitation Int’l Church: Apostle Joy Ibe, Pastor Christopher Ibe, Pastor Gift Deborah Moore, and Apostle Noble Ibe. I started this company because there was a missing link between dancers' technical training and their ability to apply these skills to real-world situations. The students under the tutelage of Dancing With Delight are able to understand how being a disciplined and focused dancer can translate to being a successful and influential person in any field. And most importantly, they are taught to stand out and be the LIGHT in this dark world.

My biggest motivation is seeing the growth, retention, application, and progress of those I get to work with. Every day the goal is to strengthen those areas of weakness and press towards being the best version of oneself. Seeing a student achieve what was formerly unattainable brings joy to my heart.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is achieving the goal I have had since the inception of this company, which is to be the LIGHT in my community. This is actualized through the Dancing With Delight Scholarship Fund. Every year two high school seniors are chosen to receive our Senior Scholarship based on their outstanding ability in the arts.

Furthermore, we award a Global Scholarship to a student in West Africa who is pursuing a career in the arts. We provide financial assistance to cover their school fees and housing through our amazing sponsors. Additionally, to encourage the young stars, we award four Rising Artist Awards to students in 6th-11th who have demonstrated great potential and excellence in their diverse arts organizations.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is finding support within your own community. People on the outside are able to appreciate the services you provide and compensate you accordingly. But the people you know are always seeking a major discount or free services when it is the same energy, time, and preparation that goes into each project. But I have found that having a mentor and experienced professionals as advisors helps to alleviate such pressures. My mentor is Noble Ibe, an entrepreneur, pastor, and author. He has been my main source of support and has taught me to place value on what I do and never lower my standards.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a clear and defined vision for your company. Having clarity at the beginning helps to navigate avoidable mistakes along the way.
  2. Be resilient, consistent, and persistent. You are the one who will make your dreams happen, nobody else. Keep pressing and be desperate to achieve your desired result.
  3. God has created you uniquely for a specific purpose. It does not matter if the market is saturated; you have something special to offer. Do not give up because others are already doing it. Instead, find ways to improve on what they are doing and add your creative touch.
