navsprk - Daniel Nieto

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in financing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Nieto of navsprk, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Navsprk is the easiest way to start and run an investment fund in Canada. Setting up an investing entity is generally expensive, takes time, and is filled with uncertainty -- At Navsprk, we create and organize investing entities in days instead of months and at a fraction of the cost of traditional alternatives. All while walking you through the process and explaining all the smart defaults we've included along the way.

Tell us about yourself

I immigrated from Venezuela to Canada at age 13. My journey has taken various twists, from teaching music to children and designing websites to trading derivatives as a hedge fund manager and venture capital. About two years ago, I left VC because I missed solving problems by building products. Since then, I've worked on a number of projects, including the most recent (navsprk.com).

I love writing code, making music, and investing. Being able to understand the technical architecture of the world around you gives you this immense sense of optimism. A sense that nearly anything is truly possible through software, hardware, and motivated people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been to see younger individuals whom I've worked with succeed in their respective fields. People often think I'm mentoring them, but it really is the other way around.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having to sacrifice time with family in order to execute.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start small and niche.
  2. Charge for your solution.
  3. Focus on delighting your customers. Everything else is noise.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Entrepreneurship can be lonely. Join communities of like-minded people and/or peer groups to help you mentally navigate through the journey.
